I started painting with Poster Colour paints in 'Non-tip' plastic pots on my dining room table as far back as I can remember. It was a natural progression to carry art through my school and college years and I combined it with Aesthetic Philosophy at university. Progressing, then, from my Poster Colour beginnings, I studied acrylics alongside photography, printmaking, drawing and sculpture, and now paint predominantly in oils on canvas. My style is rather more evolved than created and sits pretty firmly under the 'Realistic' title. Rather than Photo-Realism, however, I like to keep the paint as apparent as possible and to explore the use of colour within the light of the image.
I have exhibited in Cardiff and Brighton, but concentrate mainly on private portraiture commissions, which now hang in various homes around the world.
I am always struck by how long-lasting a painting can be. People's portraits have been gazing out at us for centuries and will for centuries to come. It is one of the few, enduring, original and trend-transcending possessions we can own in our increasingly short-lived society. If you would like a portrait of someone you know and love (or of yourself); if you have any enquiries about works you see on the following pages, or general questions; please don't hesitate to get in touch. All contact details can be found on the 'Contact' page.
I hope you enjoy the gallery (which is updated regularly). Many thanks,
